Sustainability
Responsible by Nature.
Every tonne is extracted with respect for the mountain, the fjord and the people who work there. Located within the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord area, the Gudvangen mine operates with care for one of the world’s most valued landscapes — powered entirely by renewable energy and built for generations to come.

Health, Safety and People
Safety defines every decision in the mine. Real-time monitoring, clear routines and skilled local crews keep operations stable and secure. Training and open communication ensure that everyone — from operators to engineers — works safely and confidently underground.
Most employees live in the fjord region and take pride in building a workplace that is both modern and sustainable.
Their experience and care make the mine stronger every year.

Innovation and Improvement
Norwegian Anorthosite creates long-term value for the local community. We work with regional suppliers, support apprenticeships and encourage equal opportunities across all roles. A diverse team — miners, geologists, engineers and logistics experts — reflects the community we are part of.
UNESCO & Global Goals
Operating within the UNESCO listed Nærøyfjord landscape brings both privilege and responsibility. We work under strict environmental requirements and in close dialogue with local authorities to help protect biodiversity, water quality and the fjord’s natural heritage. Our operation is designed to create long term value with the lowest possible footprint, from underground extraction to shipment by sea. This commitment is reflected in the UN Sustainable Development Goals we support.
Goal 7.
Affordable and Clean Energy
Our operation runs on 100 percent renewable hydropower. By using clean electricity in mining and processing, we reduce dependence on fossil energy and keep production emissions lower from the start.
Goal 8.
Decent Work and Economic Growth
We create skilled local jobs and invest in a safe, stable working environment. Real time monitoring, clear routines, training and strong safety culture help protect our people while supporting long term value creation in the fjord region.
Goal 9.
Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
We combine underground mining with modern, low impact technology. Digital control systems, traceability and continuous upgrades make operations more efficient, more predictable and better suited to the demands of modern industry.
Goal 12.
Responsible Consumption and Production
We work to use resources carefully at every step. Water is collected, cleaned and reused in closed loops, waste is kept low, and digital documentation gives customers traceability from mine to market.
Goal 13.
Climate Action
Lower emissions are built into the logistics model. Renewable power, short internal transport routes and direct sea access help reduce CO₂ per tonne delivered compared with more transport intensive alternatives.
Goal 14.
Life Below Water
Working next to one of the world’s most valuable fjord environments means protecting the water is essential. Closed loop water systems, low emission logistics and careful environmental management help reduce pressure on the fjord and support responsible stewardship of marine ecosystems.
Our Commitments
We protect the fjord and the surrounding natural environment.
Our operations run entirely on renewable energy.
Water is reused throughout the process, and waste is kept to a minimum.
A safe and inclusive workplace is a fundamental part of how we operate.
Traceability and transparency are maintained from mine to market.

Climate and Environment
The Gudvangen operation runs on 100 % renewable hydropower. All process water is collected, cleaned and reused in closed loops that protect the fjord. By shipping directly from the nearby deep-water quay, transport distances are short and emissions low.
Area | Practice |
|---|---|
Power | 100 % hydropower |
Water | Closed-loop recycling |
Transport | Sea-based, low-emission logistics |
Waste | Minimal; monomineralic rock |
The goal is simple: to leave the smallest possible footprint in one of Norway’s most beautiful environments.
